Hornblower Features Weekly Harbor Sunset Tours On Wednesdays

If you’re looking for something fun – and different – to do midweek in Los Angeles, then here’s a suggestion: take a sunset cocktail cruise!

Hornblower features just that, a two-hour tour around Marina del Rey. It’s each Wednesday, cost $35 and includes appetizers, a light live band and cocktails for purchase.

The cruise goes from 6:15-8:15 p.m., and goes past Ballona Creek, Burton Chace park, waterfront homes, yachts and marine life. Plus, Wednesdays are the weekly regattas of the California Yacht Club in the marina, so you’ll see lots of sailboats (later they go to party at the yacht club so they are always in a lively mood on Wednesdays).

A band plays soothing music during the 2-hour Hornblower sunset cruise.

For drinks, there’s champagne ($6), beer ($4-7), wine ($8-11), liquor ($7-9) and speciality cocktails ($7). The bartenders and fun an friendly and in case you are wondering, pour “healthy” portions of cocktails.

The boat is two levels for passengers, an enclosed area where the main bar is located and the band plays; windows provide views out to the marina. The top level is an open-air deck with full views and fresh air; there’s a smaller bar here serving beers and wine.

The appetizers are cheeses, crackers, dips and grapes.

In order to make for smooth sailing, the boat does not go into the open ocean. You don’t want that, either, for if it did, the motion of the ocean might tip over your drink.

A lot of people in Los Angeles forget that while there’s miles of beaches, there’s also an ocean and harbors, and that means boats. And this is something not to be overlooked as an activity or group outing in Los Angeles.

The tours depart from Fisherman’s Village on Fiji Way in Marina del Rey. There is no outside food or beverages allowed. If you live in Playa Vista, there’s a free shuttle bus to MDR, but it quits running at 8, so you’ll have to Uber back to your area.

Special pricing and midweek tours are available for groups of 20 or larger numbers of people.
