The Toledo Show At Harvelle’s Santa Monica Highlights Bar Events In L.A.
It’s Los Angeles on Christmas weekend – it’s a Saturday and Sunday in 2016 – and as the gifts are all wrapped and under the tree, and then opened and spread out all over the floor in three rooms. If you’re feeling like getting out of the house, then here’s some activities to do and live entertainment happening in L.A.
RIDE A BIKE ALOING THE BEACH
Did you get a bicycle for Christmas? In L.A., this is not a kids’ thing – it’s a much-desired and even necessary method of (fun) transportation, Especially for those who live along the coast. So if you’re anywhere from Santa Monica to Newport Beach, get out on The Strand and take a bike ride, which is parallel to the Pacific Ocean.
Do note, however, that the guided tours of Beach Cities Bike Tours in Hermosa, Manhattan & Redondo Beach are not operating again until Jan. 1.
LIVE MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT
For live entertainment, Harvelle’s in Santa Monica is one of the few places that is open on Sunday night.
But first, there’s more at that bar and another good band down the coat.
On Friday night, the live music venue has Lez Zepagain, one of the area’s top Led Zeppelin cover bands. Doors open at 8 and the band goes on at 9. The cover charge is $20.
Another highly popular L.A., band playing that night is The Spazmatics. This crazy 80s cover band is a constant party. They are at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. How To Spend Christmas Day & Weekend In Los Angeles The show starts at 9 and tickets are $15.
At the famous Roxy on the Sunset Strip, Fishboine plays starting at 8:30. Tickets are $20…Also on the Sunset Strip, Whiskey-A-Go-Go has a “Hookers & Blow” (only in L.A., right!) show featuring, among others, Dizzy of Guns ‘N Roses. It starts at 9 and tickets are $20…
On Christmas Day (Sunday night), Harvelle’s features The Toledo Show, the highly popular burlesque show that often sells out wherever it plays on the West Coast. This may be your best chance to catch the show. Doors open at 8 and the show starts at 9:30. Tickets are just $10.
SANTA ANITA RACETRACK & CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL
Santa Anita has its traditional day-after-Christmas opening for the winter season on Dec. 26, and this year there is a craft beer festival. For $35, you can get into the track and see the horses run (and spend any Christmas money betting on the outcomes), get eight 3-ounce craft beer or cider tastings and one 12-ounce beer or cocktail. For $65, you get 16 three-ounce tastings.
