There will be spikes in the sand as the Wimbledon of Beach Volleyball, the tournament that started it all, takes place in Manhattan Beach this weekend.

It’s the AVP Manhattan Open and it’s on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier from Thursday thru Sunday. There’s an opening ceremony on Thursday with the traditional revealing of the plaques for the previous winners on the Walk of Fame. The finals are on NBC.

Be on the lookout for Rosie’s Raiders, as well as Olympic Gold Medalists Phil Dalhausser and April Ross.

It’s here! One of the top events of the year in the South Bay takes place at the gorgeous Palos Verdes cliff featuring top California wines and several craft beers. It’s the hottest ticket in the South Bay and even tho it’s long been sold out, the PubClub ticket exchange site is loaded with people selling extras (and if you’ve got tickets to sale, also post, as people are looking to buy, as well. While several people from the South Bay are heading to remote areas of the country to be in the so-called “path of totality,” those of us in Los Angeles will only be getting a partial effect of the solar eclipse. Still, don’t look directly into the sun and regular sunglasses offer no protection. The eclipse begins at 9:05 a.m., reaches its peak at 10:21 a.m., and is finished at 11:44 a.m. The total duration time is two hours, 39 minutes. Los Angeles will have a 62% partial eclipse.  Griffith Park is having a free viewing party from 9 a.m.-noon.

Next Week In The Party Report
