Landmark Restaurants & Bars Mostly Survived The Storm
Here is a rundown of some of the most famous restaurants and bars in the Keys – landmarks, really – and their current status after Irma. PubClub.com will have continued updates on these places when information becomes available, as well as updates on when the Keys will be open for business.
Lorelei Cabana Bar
“The Lorelei and most of our staff has survived Irma. Sadly, a few of our staff have had to relocated due to the damages Irma dealt out. I’m proud to say The Lorelei property is back, in all of her glory, thanks to some very hard working people.
“We are serving both our full breakfast menu beginning at 8am each morning and our complete luncheon/dinner menu each day from 11am to 8pm, including daily specials. (somewhat limited hours of operation are due to curfews put in place to keep looting to a minimum).
“Live entertainment performing from 5 to 8pm daily. Happy Hour each day from 4 to 6pm. (We are only serving Bottle Beer, Draft Beer, House Wines and Lorelei’s Frozen Drinks at this time due to a boil water notice that’s in effect)
THE SUNSETS ARE JUST AS BEAUTIFUL,- COME JOIN US!!
WE MISS SEEING YOUR FACES”
The bar and restaurant’s signature mermaid sign made it through the hurricane, by the way, and is still standing.
Holiday Isle Tiki Bar & Postcard Inn
The resort and tiki bar are closed until further notice and it not taking reservations until Nov. 1. The WaveRunners, piers, marina Tiki Hut bar and Raw Bar are all gone. There are busted windows and substantial damage throughout the property. A big cleanup is needed before it can re-open to guests and customers.
Fish House and Encore, Key Largo
The Fish House, home of the freshest fish sandwiches in the Keys, is closed with a scheduled re-opening of Friday, Sept. 29. “Taking a beating but holding strong,” it reported during the storm. Encore next door is serving dinner, starting at 5 p.m.
Island Fish Company, Marathon
Home of the best conch fritters in the Keys, it posted this information: “The Island held strong during hurricane Irma, we are in the process of getting things back up and running. We will continue to update along the way.
“Thanks to everyone of the first responders and utility crews who are working hard to get Marathon up and running! We are very lucky to live and work with such a strong community.” #marathonstrong #islandfishco
Mangrove Mama’s, Mile Marker 20
This is the saddest story of them all. This beloved shack with the outstanding Key Lime pie at MM 20 has been completely destroyed.
Here’s what its owners posted: “For everyone asking here is the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We’ve had requests that we start a fund so they can donate to help repair this keys favorite historic restaurant. Insurance won’t cover everything we will need to get the business back up and running. Anything helps even a share.

Key’s Fishery Market & Marina, Marathon
No update on the status of this place that makes the awesome and unique lobster reuben sandwich.

AS a transplant raising two little girls in CLW by myself in the 80’s, I frequently visited family in the Keys, helping to teach people from up north how to respect the cherished wildlife of Florida. Even my kids would snorkel while I taught a quick scuba lesson to a friend from 98Rock TPA where I worked. My cousin TuTu worked at Papa Joe’s many years, my heart is breaking learning of the devastation. Conch Nation is strong! Y’all will come back greater than ever. We love you from Maryland and we’re coming to see if we can help… just need to find a bed with a shower!
