Mangrove Mama’s Restaurant and Lounge is seeking your help.

The tiny restaurant at Mile Marker 20 on the Overseas Highway, was totally destroyed when Hurricane Irma roared through the Florida Keys.

About all that’s left is part of its recognizable yellow sign.

“For everyone asking, here is the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.” the owners posted on the restaurant’s website, accompanied by a photo showing the sign and not much else. “We have a lot of work ahead of us.

“We’ve had requests that we start a fund so they can donate to help repair this keys favorite historic restaurant. Insurance won’t cover everything we will need to get the business back up and running. Anything helps, even a share.”

For many regular visitors to the Keys as well as locals, Mangrove Mama’s was an oasis as a place to stop for lunch, a few good drinks and especially its signature Key Lime Pie. Many declare it as the best in the Keys.

Beyond that, PubClub.com knows from personal experience it certainly had the best potato salad.

A small shack off the Overseas Highway just 20 miles from Key West, Mangrove Mama’s was hidden among trees and consisted of just a few small tables in an indoor-outdoor setting. It was not the kind of place where you went a for a quick bite to eat and hustled back on the road.

Instead, the place made you linger. Often you had to pry yourself away from it in order to get to Key West in time for sunset on Mallory Square.

Now it’s just a mangrove. But with its loyal following, it’s sure to once again be Mangrove Mama’s Restaurant and Lounge.

Thank you Susan! There’s a follow-up story posted about Mangrove Mamas being open. Maybe we should just delete this one come to think of it. — PubClub.com

Mangrove Mamas was not destroyed. We cleaned and replaced some equipment and back in business. Where did you get your information? Not from me. I was there the whole time
