Grand Tasting Is Saturday, Nov. 17
One of the must-do events on the annual social calendar in San Diego is the San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival, and the 2018 dates are Nov. 12-18, with the Grand Tasting scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Grand Tasting takes place from Noon-3 p.m., with VIP and early-entrance packages now available. It is held downtown San Diego on the waterfront Embarcadero with the silver towers of the Marriott Marquis San Diego glistening in the background.
The week-long event features both large and intimate wine, craft beer, cocktails and food pairings, dinners with chefs and the two most popular events, the Friday night wine tasting and Saturday’s Grand Tasting.
Tickets for the latter are in such demand they always sell out in advance. The price for GA tickets to the Grand Tasting are $135. Early entrance, which enables you to get in an hour earlier – this is the best time to beat the crowds and try out some of the incredible food from so many San Diego restaurants – is $175.
VIP, which has its own area and tent, is $225. A weekend ticket, which includes the Grand Tasting and a Sunday Taco TKO event, is $165.
Here’s some other of the many events that caught my eye:
• Bar Tiki After Party. Food and tiki drinks at JSIX in the Gaslamp after the Grand Tasting. $85.
• You & Yours Cocktail Mixing Class. Held on Wednesday, this features lessons on how to make drinks, with a bit of history tossed in along the way. Held at the You & Yours Distillery on G Street. $65.
• Oysters, Caviar & Dom Perignon. For you 5-star folks, tastings of oysters and caviar with Dom Perignon. Held at Ironside Fish & Oyster on India Street. $75.
• The Grand Decant. Previously known as SonnCom (still the host) this is the big Friday evening party with hundreds of wines and sparkling wines with some bonuses – previous events have had craft beers, premium spirits and sensational breads and cheeses. Great crowd, great event. Held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego. $75.
