In a word, “it was awesome!”
That is how PubClub.com correspondent and and a World Cup described the mood, the scene, the tailgate party, the pregame ceremonies, the game and the overall experience of Team USA’s 4-1 win over Paraguay in the opening game of World Cup 2026.
The game was played at the LA sports palace known as SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and LA Chargers. But on this evening it was football of a different kind as the foreign version of the game was played on the field. The energy was dynamic, with fans yelling “USA!, USA!,” outside of the stadium and roaring with each Team USA goal.
Like many major events, it was more than just a game. It was a happening. And it created a “I was there!,” lifetime memory for those at SoFi. Some people, our correspondent’s brother, just went for the tailgate sceene and with no intention of buying a ticket and going into the game because they wanted to be there, to be a part of it.
The game brought out soccer fans in Southern California – yes, there are a few – as well as those who just wanted to be part the atmosphere.
