Looking At Paintings And Sculptures Not Among My Things To Do

One of the big attractions for several travel destinations are museums.
But not for me.
I don’t particularly care for them, don’t seek them out and rarely visit them. Particularly ones dealing with artwork; I don’t really understand a lot of the paintings and particularly the sculptures.
Nearly every museum with artwork I’ve been in are boring, with one notable exception being the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. I would also like to go to the Louvre. I took a peek at it while in Paris, but only had about two days in that fine city and did not want to spend one of them waiting in line and then find myself rushing through it.
One museum I was advised to go to was the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) in Toronto. I only had a couple of hours that day and figured with my interest (or lack thereof) in museums that would be plenty of time.
Well, it was so spectacular – it traces the history of mankind from the very beginning all the way through to today – I wound up sprinting through it to try and see everything. I loved it.
But here’s the funny thing: when I went back to Toronto, I immediately went back to the ROM and did not really like it. I had a local friend with me and we both enjoyed the Hockey Hall of Fame a lot more than the ROM (he’s Canadian and I had to practically pry him out of the latter).
While in Prague, my buddy Luau Larry insisted we go to something called the Torture Museum. It consisted of half a dozen rooms of various devices used on criminals through the years and while Luau Larry and I agreed with some chuckles that while some of those methods should be applied to certain people today, it was only briefly entertaining for us. We were in and out in about half an hour.
So if you’re traveling with me and want to go to a museum, well, I’ll meet you at the bar later.
Cheers!
