The Travel Blogger: Finally A Nice Day In Southern California. But Wait!

The Weather Has Been So Bad I’m Writing About Seeing The Sun In L.A.

Am I really writing this – a headline with the words “a nice day in Southern California!?”

Yeah, what else is new?

There’s traffic on an LA freeway? There was an awards show in Hollywood? The Lakers lost again?

Yet things are so bizarre with our weather this winter that I actually took note of the fact we had a nice day.

The sun was out, the temperature was warm (low 60s, not bad for this time of the year) and there was no wind strong enough to blow mounds of sand onto the sidewalks at the beaches and topple tractor-trailers off the freeways.

I walked around without having to wear a sweater or jacket (or both, as has been the case lately). I rode my bike again!

But, alas, just as things were looking brighter, I looked at the forecast. The next four days are predicted to be cloudy, with no sunshine. By the weekend it is going to rain. Again. And on a weekend!

Both days!

Arrrgg. When is this crappy weather going to go away and stay away, returning us to the palm tree-lined paradise we know so well and love so much? Right now, we’re no different than any other place in the country.

My mom reports that my hometown of Knoxville, TN, has had so much rain that boats on the lakes and rivers are floating over the docks. I can relate, because here we’ve had enough rain to consider building an ark.

Last week, I wrote here that first time I suggest people traveling to California check the weather before you leave. Now, I am afraid I have to do it again.

But don’t you worry – I’ll certainly let you know when things are back to normal with our weather.

Cheers!
