Students Go Off To College To Gain A Little Knowledge

The American University Lifestyle Teaches Things Other Than What You Learn In Class

Fraternity and sorority parties, football games, intramurals and nights spent drinking cheap bears at old classic bars just off campus.

Somewhere in there are a few classes, studying and cramming for mid-terms and finals.

That’s the lifestyle at American universities where students go off to college to gain a little knowledge – and wind up getting a whole lot more.

The college experience is like nothing else and it prepares people for life more than what they actually learn in the classrooms.

For several students, it’s the first time they are away from home. They don’t have mom around to cook or do laundry for them anymore (and these things are quite a shock to many). There’s no one to nurture you when you get lonely or sick and no father figure sternly telling you that you had “better straighten up son” forcing you to study and go to class.

Nope, you’re pretty much on your own and at the young age of late teens and early 20s, you’ve got to discipline yourself and teach yourself to do the right things and make the right decisions.

And there are so many distractions, so many crossroads of right (and wrong) decisions to make in college. There are the parties, the activities and above all, the incredible socializing with fellow students from not only around the state but all places all over America. There are even people from various places around the globe.

It’s kid-in-the-candy store stuff. On a semi-adult level.

Of course, the college life isn’t for everybody. Some high-tail it back home to relive their high school years – only to find out they no longer really fit in anymore.

The more ambitions people are there to get in and out as fast as possible so they can start making money in the real world. They can even complete their college career faster with on-line programs and classes.

So while people go to college to gain a little knowledge, the biggest thing they learn is about surviving in a different world and by doing that, the biggest gain in knowledge is what they learn about themselves.
