There’s reason to celebrate again at Old Tony’s.
The iconic restaurant and bar on the pier in Redondo Beach, CA, has reopened after being shut closed since March due to the COVID-19 shutdown. So it is once again serving up its seafood and signature Fire Chief cocktails.
This comes two weeks after Owner Tony Trutan sent made pleas to the Redondo Beach City Council and even sent a letter to LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn, along with a video that traced the restaurant’s history, which goes back more than 60 years.
This news was welcomed by locals, many of whom posted comments such as “I’ll be there on Monday!,” on their social media accounts. And they were true to their words, drinking Fire Chiefs and watching the Pacific Ocean waves crash in front of them from the large picture windows in the Crow’s Next bar.
Trutan had earlier stated that he was not sure if the restaurant could stay in business if not allowed to open before July, which is the date the Redondo Council had put down for the pier.
Redondo Beach without Old Tony’s is like France without wine, Canada without beer, Mexico without tequila. That’s not only because of the restaurant but the old-fashioned Crow’s Nest bar, where locals always take visitors to soak in the sunset over the Pacific Ocean while downing a few Fire Chief drinks.
A kind of Mai Tai on steroids, the Fire Chief is written up on PubClub.com as being “the South Bay’s strongest drink.”
Old Tony’s – like every other restaurant and bar across the country – had been forced to close back in March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, there will be celebrating again at this iconic Redondo Beach establishment.
It’s PubClub’s understanding the pier will not be open until the first week of July.
