Although social distancing remains in place, the summer has begun, and there are many ways to enjoy the sunny weather with family and friends – while maintaining a safe distance, of course. Whether it is by playing tennis, hosting bingo sessions over video calls, or exploring the variety of available NJ betting apps together, there are many ways to make the most of the summer’s beautiful weather and longer daylight hours.
The time in quarantine has undoubtedly taken a toll and put a strain on many relationships. It is difficult emotionally and mentally for daily routines to be changed and to spend so much time indoors alone, or with just a few people. It is essential to make time for yourself and to foster relationships with individuals other than those you live with. Below are a few easy and fun ways to connect with other people safely during quarantine, enjoy the company of other people, and strengthen relationships.
Host a games night over video call
One easy way to have fun during quarantine is through a virtual game playing night. You can invite friends and family to join you for virtual Monopoly, Scrabble, or Mario Kart, or you can try something new like Jackbox games. Everyone needs a laugh right now, and the competitive spirit will help everyone let off steam. If you are at home with your family, try hosting a game night once a week and learn the card games you have always heard about but never knew how to play.
If you want to have an adult-friendly evening, you can introduce alcohol into the mix and host a virtual drinking game party. This is also a great time to try all of those elaborate cocktails you have been curious about but never tried making.
Work up a sweat together
Even though you are apart from your friends, you can still get physical together. If you enjoy working out with a buddy, try video calling your friends and all doing the same pilates, dancefit, or body pump class together, at the same time. If you live near a park, you can also meet up and go on a socially distanced run together.
If yoga is more your speed, find a friend who is equally interested in yoga and commit to a monthly yoga schedule. Completing a yoga calendar with a friend will help you to stay motivated and accountable and will also give you something to do together.
Start a film club
Quarantine is an ideal time for catching up on all of the films you have always wanted to see but never seemed to have the time to watch. If you have friends or family members who are also cinephiles, start a film club with them. Each week someone in the group picks a new movie, everyone watches it on their own, and then at the end of the week, everyone reconvenes to discuss the film, your thoughts, and feelings. You will be introduced to new films you would never have seen, and you will have an opportunity to develop your understanding of cinema while having fun with your friends.
If you and your friends tend more towards the literary or musical than the cinematic, try hosting a book club, or even an album club where everyone listens to an album each week and then discusses it at the end of the week.
Try a new hobby together
Maybe there is a hobby you have always wanted to attempt but never felt like you had the time or energy to try. Quarantine is the perfect time to try out a new hobby and start experimenting. Why not do something hands-on that you can do while watching television like crochet or knitting? Or give baking a go and try making the lockdown sourdough that has become so popular. If you are looking for something more adventurous, you could also try a physical hobby like unicycling, juggling, or even dance. Find a friend or two with similar interests and embark on the journey together – it will be more fun to start a new hobby and share questions, frustrations, and triumphs with a friend.
These are just a few of the many ways you can connect with friends and family during the quarantine. Although we need to maintain safe, socially-distanced spaces, it is still possible to enjoy hobbies, games, and evenings together – you just need to get creative!
