White House Honey Ale Is Barack Obama’s Home-Brewed Beer

President’s Brew Could Appeal to a Huge Segment of ‘Untapped’ Voters: Beer Drinkers

There’s a lot of potential jokes here, President Obama brewing his own beer, officially called White House Honey Ale.

But I’ll pass on them all because I want to try it! Can a blogger about bars and beers get sent a 6-pack for review? Better yet, get invited to the White House to sample it, ideally with the Chief Executive himself?

In fact, having a tasting (or better yet, a keg party) on the White House lawn would be a great political move. It would be tapping into a whole new voting block segment: beer drinkers! He would win the entire South in a landslide, and easily carry places like Chicago, Milwaukee, Portland and St. Louis.

President Obama and First Lady Michelle served White House Honey Ale back in February at a Super Bowl party and it was such a big hit, all bottles were consumed by the end of the game (not sure how many Steelers fans were there drowning sorrows, or Packers fans celebrating).

There’s nothing new about alcohol and our presidents. In fact, George Washington had a barrel of rum at his inauguration. FDR, who attended several cocktail parties as a rising politician in New York, created the Beer and Wine Revenue Act in March of 1933 and later that year the 21st Amendment was passed, which ended Prohibition.

So cheers to President Obama and I’ll look for my 6-pack in the mail or an invitation to a beer party on the White House lawn in my e-mail in-box.
