National champions. Again.
No. 1 recruiting class. Again.
Super-rival Auburn fires its coach. Rival Tennessee fires its coach amid turmoil that could result in severe NCAA sanctions. McDonald’s anyone!?
Could things get any worse for Bama haters?
Well, yes, if you throw this into the mix. Alabama has the hottest – if not the best – college basketball team in the country right now.
If you find that last part impossible to believe, then consider this:
• Alabama went on the road and beat Kentucky in Rupp Arena by 20 points
• Alabama then hosted Arkansas and beat the Razorbacks by 31 points
• Alabama then went on the road and beat an undefeated-in-the-SEC and super-talented LSU team by 30 points. The score was 105-75. And it wasn’t that close.
The Tide is leading the league with a 7-0 record (12-3 overall) and appears to be running away from the other teams. It also went on the road and defeated Top 10 Tennessee and beat a rising Auburn in the Barn.
The basketball team is scoring and winning at a rate that makes one think Devonta Smith, Najee Harris and Mac Jones have traded in their cleats for sneakers.
But instead of having a three-headed monster, Coach Nate Oats has a team made up of nearly 10 monsters and they shoot three-pointers like the football team ran slant patterns. They are also playing a sticky defense that, when looked at in relation to the gridiron greats, is like those of the earlier Saban teams as well of those of the Bear Bryant era.
The season is far from over, of course, but if the basketball team continues to play with the intensity is has showed so far in the SEC, then “Bama fatigue” will go far beyond the football field for Bama haters.
