In a positive development for San Diego pubclubbers, a live music venue is coming to the waterfront.
The Rustic, a Texas-based bar and restaurant not to be confused with Rustic Root, is opening on San Diego Bay behind the Convention Center. It replaces Joe’s Crab Shack adjacent to the Rady Shell. This provides a tremendous boost to waterfront nightlife, which to date is mainly daytime places for tourists and famlies. The Rustic is sure to attract locals, those (such as myself) seeking a fun place to hang out on the water and people in town for conventions. With the Hyatt hotel just steps away, a lot of those guests will no doubt be spending their off time there. It will also be a popular pre- and post-concert spot for people going to shows at the Shell.
“We’re proud to bring The Rustic to San Diego in a way that celebrates the city’s creative heartbeat,” said Kyle Noonan, co-founder and co-CEO of Free Range Holdings, LLC, partent company of The Rustic. “We’re excited to partner with local purveyors and artists to create a space that feels authentically San Diego — built by the people who make this city so special.”
According to the Port of San Diego, which manages such things, The Rustic will have outdoor seating and live indoor music, including its Jam & Toast brunch that includes live acoustic performances. The menu will feature craft beers, wine, cocktails and American food. In an agreement with the Rady Shell, The Rustic is limited to 12 ticketed events per year. Boaters will be able to pull up and dock at the The Rustic.
“With its historic designation, this is one of the most distinctive restaurant properties on San Diego Bay,” said Chair Danielle Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “It’s important that we have the right partner—one that will both invest in the property and build on the success of The Rady Shell and the Convention Center. The Rustic will bring new energy and a fresh experience to the site and to our waterfront.”
The construction and opening timelines are to be determined, according to the port and, of course, PubClub.com will keep providing updates on this great new addition to San Diego’s nightlife scene.
