Tropical Cocktails, Jungle Decorations & Halloween Fun in the Gaslamp Quarter

Looking for a Halloween-themed bar in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter? Margaritaville Hotel has transformed its LandShark Bar & Grill into the Lost Temple Tavern, complete with jungle decorations, spooky touches, specialty cocktails and a Halloween night appearance by a witch doctor. I stopped by for a preview and discovered that getting lost can have its rewards — especially when there’s a good rum drink waiting at the bar.

I was lost, and then found a drink.
It was called, appropriately enough, the Lost Soul Punch, a combination of dark and coconut rums, 99 Bananas flavored schnapps pineapple, passion fruit, lime and grenadine, served in a tiki glass. It was so good, I had a second.
My location was the Landshark Bar & Grill at San Diego’s Margartiaville and the occasion was its conversion to the Lost Temple Tavern for Halloween. There were jungle vines hanging from various places in the bar, a skeleton on the hanging replica airplane Hemisphere Dancer and all kinds of other jungle-themed drinks as well as a special food menu.

When you’re looking for things to do in San Diego and in the Gaslamp in particular during the Halloween period, pop into the Lost Temple Tavern. The idea is to “transport” people to a forgotten tropical temple filled with overgrown jungle décor, tropical skeletons, eerie photo opportunities and spooky surprises. It runs from now through Halloween night, when a witch doctor will roam through the bar from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
A DJ plays on Friday and Saturday nights and for more entertainment, there’s a jungle/Halloween video playing on the TV screens.
And yes, there are the cocktails. They are as follows with the prices being quite reasonable.

• Lost Soul Punch | $15
Margaritaville Dark and Coconut Rums, 99 Bananas, pineapple juice, passion fruit purée, lime juice and grenadine, served in a tiki glass.
• The Black Bat | $15
Murciélago Tequila Blanco, lime juice and black agave syrup with a black salt rim.
• Rigor Mortis | $16
Empress Gin, Fuji Apple & Ginger Red Bull and Blue Curaçao.
• Bloody Ghost Skull Shot | $10
Ghost Blanco Tequila and hibiscus syrup.
For food there is a burger served with unique and tasty black garlic fries ($26) and two desserts, a dark chocolate mousse tart for $16 (called The Last Reflection) and a candied lollypop of sorts called the Green Veil for $16.
You can just show up or register in advance which is a good idea if you want a table, here on Eventbrite.
