Have Some Beers With Dad At The Bier Mit At The Baron

Here’s an interesting Father’s Day gift: Take him to a Renaissance fair.

There’s one in Corona, CA – that’s east of Anaheim – and it’s a celebration “fit for a king,” according to the organizers.

It’s an annual celebration of all things Renaissance with entertainment, beer (or bier), food, games and cool father-son bonding things to watch like jousting and firing of cannons.

It’s part of The Koroneburg Old World Festival and it takes place at the Crossroads Riverview Park, which becomes an Old World Bavarian Village. I assume that means there’s lots of good German beer served in 1-liter mugs or large steins. There is beer (and wine), in fact, at the “bier mit the Baron” at 5:30 p.m. daily at the Gazebo.

It also has the following:

• Live, full-contact jousts, military battle re-enactments, authentic sword fights and cannon, archery and pyro-juggling demonstrations.

• Musicians, minstrels, town criers and a band of rogue pirates; the popular “Washing Well Wenches”; Wish Facilitator Penelope Pendragon; the Queens Swordsmen (comedic sword play with real swords); a mesmerizing, comedic aerialist act; and a magician/escape artist.

• Re-enactment guilds depicting the lifestyles, culture and “technology” of the era,  from medicine and weaponry to everyday household “conveniences” and handcrafts.

• Noted intellectuals of the period like Galileo and Nostradamus talking about  their philosophies and answering questions.

• Games section with a giant swing, gigantic rocking horses and towering strike; hand-pushed, wooden carousel; and dunk tank, veggie darts and stick ball.

• Renaissance-era food such as giant turkey legs, bratwurst, ribs and filet mignon.

The event runs Saturday from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m.., and Sunday from 11: a.m.-6:00 p.m. Admission is $18 at the gate ($15 for seniors 62). Parking is $5.
