Rotating Menu, Craft Beers, DJ And Live Art Make For A Unique Experience
One of the best ways to start a social Sunday is, in my opinion, with a champagne brunch.
With brunch, you don’t have to get up too early and you can stay late. It’s really like a European-paced dinner. You take your time and soak in the atmosphere of your surroundings.
And now the Side Door, part of the highly-regarded Five Crowns restaurant in the Newport Beach, CA, area, has put a twist on a Sunday brunch that debuts April 7. It’s called the “Sunday Sessions” and with a name like that it sounds like some kind of unplugged music event at a bar.
Close, but instead of unplugged live tunes, it features the hip – but not hip-hop – music from a DJ.
And while this is not exactly a champagne brunch with bottomless mimosas it does feature limited release craft beers that frequently rotate among its drink offerings which, of course, includes mimosas.
This is not a buffet and the brunch menu changes weekly. Expect items such as pork belly hash, unique Green Eggs and Ham (SideDoor’s version of eggs Benedict), tomato scramble with chanterelles and roasted corn and confit duck drumettes as a special take on Buffalo wings. Prices range from $6-20.
To provide the “hipness” to the brunch, DJs play eclectic and funky tunes. This is enhanced with special events spotlighting local painters and photographers creating live art, slam poetry and more unique visual entertainment. After all, part of what makes Sunday social brunches so great is the atmosphere, and this one certainly is unique.

Well, that all sounds great and I can’t wait to try it, which will happen in the not-to-distant future.
