It’s A Party For Basketball And Football Games Plus The Kentucky Derby

One of the cool things about living in L.A., is that it’s one of the best sports-watching cities in the world.
There are so many transplants from other areas that no matter what team is playing there’s a sports bar somewhere around town that has an alumni group watching it.
And for the Louisville Cardinals, that place is Big Wangs in Hollywood.
This sports bar on N. Caheenga Blvd., is the home to Louisville alumni, who gather to watch their basketball team and also their football squad, which will enter the 2013 season likely ranked in the Top 15. The basketball team has been tearing it up March Madness and plays Michigan for the championship.

It’s also a big place – one of the best in L.A., in fact – for watching the Kentucky Derby.
That event, the first Saturday in May each year, is huge. Makes sense; the Derby is in Louisville and the alumni and natives of the city are quite passionate about it.
Big Wangs is a cool spot for just about any game. First of all, you don’t have to worry about sitting or standing in a particular place to see a TV, because they are everywhere.
It’s comprised of two sections, one kind of an open-air area with big windows open that let in the air and sunshine. The Louisville fans prefer the other area, which is in the back, more dark and more intimate. And louder, especially when things are going good for the Cardinals.
Big Wangs: 1562 N. Cahuenga Blvd. (323) 469-2442. Other Big Wangs location are: 6200 Lankershim Blvd., in North Hollywood and downtown at 801 South Grand Ave.
