South Bay’s Neighborhood Bar Among The Best In The Beach Cities

You know what makes a great bar?
Well, several things, but in this case it’s a bar just being itself. One that has not been tainted by publicity, does not think itself any better because it’s been featured on TV, is not anything more today than it was before it achieved local fame.
That place is the North End in Hermosa Beach.
Last June, it was one of the hottest bars in Los Angeles. As the neighborhood bar of the LA Kings, it was featured in the city’s media almost as much as the team. After the Kings won, the players took the Stanley Cup into the bar, making the place even more locally famous. And LA loves its stardom, it’s happening and trendy places.
But even when Kings fever is turned down in the off-season and regular season, the North End goes back to its normal fun self. And at the North End, that means it’s rocking! Of course, with the Kings advancing in the 2013 NHL Playoffs, it’s back to 2012 fever!
In fact, the North End is about the most happening bar in the South Bay. Get there much after 9 on a Friday or Saturday night, and you’ll be stuck in a line for half an hour.
There’s nothing fancy or particularly special about the North End. And that’s what makes it so great.
It’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s just a good, simple neighborhood bar at the beach. You don’t get dressed up to go the North End. In fact, you barely get dressed at all. You wear what you wore to the beach that day, or just throw on some shorts and an old t-shirt. Or for gals, a sun dress or casual top counts as dressing up for the night.
With sandals, of course.
There’s fun party music and smiling bartenders who pour a good drink. The food is much better than you might expect from such a casual bar – it roasts its pork all day, for instance – but mainly it’s just a good beer and drinks hangout at the beach for people who live in the neighborhood.
And ya know what – that’s why it’s so popular, and why it’s rocking the South Bay.
Cheers!
