There’s A Good Party Scene At These Fun Lancaster Bars

It’s not Hollywood and it is most certainly not the beach. But it doesn’t have to be either in order to be a good place to party.

And that’s what I found when I ventured into the nightlife of Lancaster, CA.

Now before you start snickering, laughing and making funny faces at the fact that I went out in a place that most people blow by at 70 mph while on the 14 freeway on their way to Mammoth, let me say that the Bar Blogger is quite aware that sometimes you’ve got to look under a few rocks to find fun.

An animated karaoke singer belts out a song at BeX in Lancaster, CA.

As it turns out, Lancaster has a very nice downtown, a tree-lined area with retail, restaurants and bars. It’s quite pleasant. The Lancaster/Palmdale area also is home of the Fast Lane Racing School, which trains the celebrities for the annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Willow Springs Raceway which provides the scene of many car television commercials and the United States Air Force’s Edwards Air Force Base, the West Coast location of the shuttle landings and also the place where many experimental aircraft are tested, including the Stealth bomber.

So don’t be laughing at Lancaster!

The biggest and baddest of the downtown bars is a massive place called BeX Bar and Grill. It combines a nice restaurant/bar with a lounge-type patio (a newcomer to the place who is more familiar with Vegas might be tempted to start looking around for a pool) and a live music venue (jazz on Wednesdays) that gives way to a DJ and dancing on weekends. It’s such a popular place that there is a line every weekend with people paying a $10 cover charge.

Yet that’s the mere foam in the big beer glass, for there’s a whole other world taking place one level below this scene. There’s a basement and it contains another bar, pool tables, tons of TVs for watching sports and, get this, a bowling alley!

It’s a strike! Well, maybe not at the BeX bowling lanes.
The bowling lanes at BeX light up like a dance floor.

This is not some three-or-four lane deal but about a dozen lanes with flashing lights (those distracted the Bar Blogger on a couple of rows, resulting in a score of 100 rather than something considerably more impressive). Lucky Strike meets Lancaster.

Our group, which consisted of existing and new friends, also visited Schooner’s, a well-lit sports bar with tons of beer on tap (one of the new ones is Alexander Keith’s from Canada), hot waitresses and much-better-than-bar-food food. (The tri-tip is the star of the menu.)

A cute waitress poses with thirsty customers at Schooner’s in Lancaster.

I could easily envision myself spending an entire Saturday there watching college football or a Sunday for NFL games. It’s also evident this is a cool hangout for locals just about anytime, whether or not there are any sporting events on the many TVs.

Even more here is PubClub.com’s recommended spots for breakfast/brunch lunch and dinner recommendations in Lancaster.

So there’s definitely live in Lancaster. Keep reading the Bar Blogger for more great finds in and around Los Angeles and other cities.
