Manager Makes A Warm Budweiser A Cold Bud With A Simple But Impressive Solution
It’s often the little things that impress me the most, small gestures that go a long way toward making me loyal to a person or a place.
Silvio’s, a small restaurant/bar in Hermosa Beach, CA that specializes in sizzlin’ Brazilian food, did one of those small things for me recently. I’ll remember it forever and I want to share it with you.
I was at Silvio’s not to eat but to drink. You see, it’s the host bar of transplanted people from Chicago, and a friend runs WACCO, the West Coast Association of Crazy Chicagoans And Others. I’m one of the “Others” but am never one to pass up a good party opportunity so I joined the WACCOs to watch the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Seated on the small patio, I had a cozy seat but the waitress brought me a lukewarm beer. Silivo’s has a great special of a king can of Budweiser for just $5, and the first one I got from the bartender was ice cold. This one, though, needed to chill.
The waitress had disappeared into the crowd but the manager, Doug, happened to walk by outside the establishment, on his way to run an errand. I flagged him down and asked if he had any colder Budweisers, thinking he would just call over the waitress.
Instead Doug – whom I’m known since he was a bartender at the original Sharkeez in Manhattan Beach – took the beer and wiggled his way through the crowd to the bar. Heck, I could have done that; I didn’t want to take him away from his business. A couple minutes later he returned with a pitcher containing ice and water with the beer placed in it. He instructed me to twirl the can around for a few moments and eventually it would be ice cold.
Well, being an ingenious beer drinker I know the trick well, but the fact that he made that extra effort really stood out to me. As well as others around me, too, who snapped photos of the can of Bud submerged in what was basically a pitcher converted into an ice bucket.
Yes, it was a small gesture but at the same time it was huge because it demonstrates the lengths to which Silvio’s will go in order to keep its customer happy. I highly recommend you go there and experience it for yourself.
Cheers!
