WHAT: French National Day. A nationwide holiday and celebration. It celebrates the storming of the Bastille fortress on July 14, 1789 that led to the overthrow of Louis XVI and his wife Maria Antoinette.
WHERE: As this is a national holiday, celebrations take place all over France, from the cities to the villages. Obviously, the bigger the location, the bigger the celebration.
FIREWORKS IN PARIS: The biggest party is in Paris and the biggest party place is the Eiffel Tower, which has a giant fireworks display. It begins at 11 p.m., and lasts for 30 minutes. The public viewing area is the the Champ de Mars.
