BVIs Still In Recovery Mode & Needs Tourists To Rebuild

It hosted its annual New Year’s Eve bash and in March celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Both were huge successes.
But like most places in the British Virgin Islands, Foxy’s Bar continues to struggle after Hurricane Irma.
To get an update on the situation, PubClub.com contacted Susan Zaluski of Foxy’s Bar and the Jost Van Dykes Preservation Society in this Q&A about Foxy’s and the BVIs in general. (Editor’s note: this article was published in early 2018.)
Q1.) First of all, what is the status of the BVIs after the hurricane?
A1.) Everyone is tired, but working hard and recovering to the best of their ability.
Q2.) How much impact did the hurricane have on the normally busy tourist winter season?
A2.) We NEED visitors. Visitors can still come and enjoy what they loved about the BVIs. While some businesses are still not open, plenty are and we need our visitors. This is really the road to recovery for us. Visitors are coming, but it’s definitely slower.
Q3.) How is Foxy’s?
A.) Foxy’s is chugging along. It’s slightly smaller (much of the front part of the restaurant blew away) but we are moving forward. We rebuilt the beach bar and are open and serving lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Note: Foxy’s will be celebrating the 80th birthday of Foxy in August.
Q4.) How was the New Year’s Eve party?
A4.) On December 31, 2017 we were amazed that we had about 2,000 people at our old Year’s night/New Year’s Party. Huge thanks to Kenny Chesney and Love for Love City in helping JVD get ready for that event. They repaired the customs dock in great harbour, built back a footbridge in Great Harbour and helped us to build a beachfront stage for the event.
Q6.) What feedback have you and others had from tourists who have visited the BVIs the past few months?
A6.) What we are finding is that the visitors who are coming are AMAZING – incredibly supportive and encouraging. If people are thinking about how they can contribute – come visit!
Drink and eat at Foxy’s, but make sure you stop at the other smaller nearby bars. Everyone needs your business! Do you need an excuse for another rum punch or Painkiller? We’re telling your to do it! It’s a huge help to the local economy.
Foxy’s Hurricane Song & Fundraiser
Foxy has recorded a song on the hurricane and on Memorial Day Weekend there is a world release party not at Foxy’s but at Big Tex bar in Decatur, GA. It’s Sunday, May 27, starting at 1 p.m. Foxy is donating all sales from the DD to rebuild Foxy’s School of Music.

That’s great! About being impressed in January, but not for the airlines. Thanks for the feedback!
