Of all the Fun Places in the Greek Islands to Party, None of Them Can Match the Wild Scene at Paradise Beach
Paradise Beach is the daytime party place on the island of Mykonos. It’s a techno party of the highest order – no nightclub in Vegas, South Beach or Amsterdam has anything on it – with a no-holds-barred attitude. Each afternoon in the summer it’s flat-out cranking.
Plus, there’s no crowding by the door with people hoping to get inside, no dress codes (in fact, sometimes there’s no dress at all as most of the girls are topless when sunbathing) and no doorman picking out the prettiest people and having his hand out for those too impatient to wait.
In June, July and August, there’s plenty of people to have fun with, but also plenty of room for everyone.
With loud, thumping music echoing across the sand, it’s either get up and join the scene or leave the beach. Not surprisingly, most people choose to join the scene.
It’s so wild that despite the fact that Paradise Beach is only the length of about two city blocks in Las Vegas, it has not one. Not two. But three bars.
The wildest of these is called the Tropicana Beach Bar, the first one you come to after getting off the bus. The bar at the far end is a similar scene but with about half the number of people. In the middle is a “break bar,” one that’s good for taking a break from the wild scene on either side of it.
It also contains a cafe with darned good food; there’s a garden on site and it has the freshest Greek salad in all of the islands. In the back are small rooms, slightly above camping and the cost is just a few Euros a night.
It is at the Tropicana where things are really crazy. Almost every spot on the bar is taken with people dancing, or at least moving around. Sometimes the bartenders give away small squirt pistols, so if you see someone you want to meet, you start squirting them with water, than dance your way down the bar next to that person. What an opening!
The bartenders are friendly and, like many in Greece, start randomly passing out shots to people at the bar. There’s a DJ and he’s not one of the club fancy ones who stays up in a DJ booth, but he comes out and mingles and parties with people. “Hey California girls” one once said to a group of girls from L.A. Then he would play “Californians know how to party.”
As the afternoon progresses, and the alcohol kicks in, the scene gets even more lively. It goes until about sunset, when most people head back to town. The bus runs every half hour.
At night there are DJs but the real crazy times are during the full moon parties. It goes all night and what’s better than to be in your swimsuit, no shoes with your toes in the sand. When they are not dancing on the bar, that is.
Yes, Paradise Beach on Mykonos is Paradise for partiers, indeed.
