Winter Storm To Bring More Powder For Skiers & Snowboarders
A massive storm will be slamming the Pacific Northwest this week, and with it ski resorts are to be pounded with snow.
A winter storm watch has been posted in California with heavy snow of 1 to 2 feet expected in some areas. The storm system is moving in Tuesday and covers and area from Settle to San Francisco.
Just last week, 2 feet of snow fell at Squaw Valley, 20 inches on Sierra-at-Tahoe, got 20 inches and between 8 and 10 inches fell in the Truckee area, according to the National Weather Service Reno office. This week could equal those amounts, although potential warm temperatures – mid-50s daytime and upper-30s at night – could turn that snow into a slushy mess.
Lake Tahoe resorts are expected to get snow on Tuesday and, after three days of mostly sunshine, return to snowy conditions on the weekend. Snow is also due Tuesday at California’s popular Mammoth Mountain with mostly sunny conditions – and temperatures of 40/25 – holding thru Saturday when more snow is expected to add to the 6-food depth base.
In Park City, which this week hosts the Sundance Film Festival the weather forecast calls for snow during the week with sunshine on the weekend. Bundle up, tho, if you’re going to the Sundance films and parties, for the daytime highs will be in the mid-30s with low in the low- to mid-20s.
Further north, Whistler-Blackcomb will get snow all week with the exception of Wednesday, with temperatures hovering in the low-30s (F).
All this is perfect for snow-seekers, for the weekend promises sunshine and fresh powder.
