Mooning Of The Amtrak Continues In Laguna Niguel, CA

Passengers Cheer When People Show Their Rear To Passing Trains

Mooning Of The Amtrak
When the trains pass, people drop their shorts and moon the passengers.

If Paul Simon were to appear at the Mooning of the Amtrak, he might be tempted to start singing “Still Crazy After All These Years.”

Were he to be dressed in a chicken suit, the way he was during that epic “Saturday Night Live” skit then that would be quite appropriate.

Because this event is still going on and it’s still crazy after all these years. Despite a misguided move to shut it own by the Orange County (CA) Sheriffs Dept.

Explaining Amtrk Mooning Event

What IS the Mooning of the Amtrak? Just what it sounds like, actually. When trains approach, people run out of a dive bar in Laguna Niguel in south Orange County, line up against the fence and drop their pants.

People on the train cheer, the conductor toots the whistle and everyone has a good laugh. When the next train comes, they do it again, all day and into the night.

It’s an unofficial function that takes place the second Saturday of July. Started as a dare in the bar, it grew into a huge event that had motorhomes camping overnight on the side of the road.

Things are no less calm inside the Mug’s Away Saloon.

The bar was so crowded there was a short line to get inside. And inside, this hot and sweaty place was full of guys in tank tops with Harleys parked outside and near-naked bartender girls with pasties on their nipples.

Today, the scene in the Mug’s Away Saloon is still lively, but there’s only maybe a dozen or so people who moon the trains, rather than about a hundred in its heyday.

It’s a unique event worth checking out because when you show your rear, you’ll get a cheer from people on the train.
