San Francisco Nightlife Offers More Than Just Fun Bars

After-Hours Museum Parties And Tourist Restaurants At Pier 39 Offer Partying Alternatives

When going out in San Francisco, you don’t always have to think about bars.

You can also think about art.

A cool trend in “The City” as locals call it, are weekly “after hours’ events at several of the museums. These are for adults only and allow you to visit the museums minus the tourists, kids, families or even lines. And there are cocktails, as well. Even DJs and dancing.

It was with keen ears that I listened that these events take place at the Exploratorium (Thursday nights), the California Academy of the Sciences (also Thursdays) the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (Fridays) and even the Walt Disney Family Museum (don’t let the name fool you; this is a museum of the personal possessions that Walt Disney collected over the years,  and one of its parties  featured drinks from San Francisco’s authentic and awesome tiki bar Smuggler’s Cove), during a San Francisco Tourism media dinner.

These happenings are hugely popular among the city’s singles, attracting as many as 2,000 people.

Inspired by the thought of making art interesting by infusing it with cocktails, I also came up with an idea for a pub crawl along Pier 39.

That’s normally a tourist-heavy area but after dark it holds good party potential for locals and adventurous PubClubbers, as well. When looking to go out in San Francisco – or any major city for that matter – don’t overlook these tourist areas because the scene can change dramatically at night.

Further inspiration came from Sonoma Valley wines served at the press event, which also included Sonoma Valley Tourism, Sonoma County Vinters, Visit Tri-Valley (a wine and craft beer region in the East Bay), Kimpton Restaurants (one of which features cocktails on tap) City Pass (buy this and get half off many of the city’s top attractions), Hornblower Cruises (tours include Alcatraz) and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

I’ll have a full review of the museum parties and after-tourist area bars when I return to The City. Such things require further research.

So there’s a lot to see and do in San Francisco for PubClubbers, and not all of it necessarily happens in its bars.

Cheers!
