A Great Place To Stay In Monterey Bay
The door is open. Even if it’s not actually open.
At the Hofsas House in Carmel, CA, it’s the mentality more than the actual position, for the hospitality here is like swinging open the doors and welcoming guests into their home.
That’s what you get from a place that’s been run by a family for a couple of generations.
The Hofsas House – located on upper San Carlos Street, about a five-minute walk from the main part of town – looks like an German alpine village lodge. Yet instead of being in Bavaria, it’s in Carmel-by-the-Sea (locals, by the way, refer to Carmel as “by-the-sea” to distinguish themselves from Carmel Valley across Highway 1).
The lobby is warm and inviting with a fireplace and a fruit basket and once you’re handed your room key, you feel as warm as a nice fall afternoon in Carmel.
The rooms are neat because they are all different. One might have a big bed with a fireplace and another one a quaint college-style feel. This makes it feel as if you are not in a hotel but in the cozy apartment of a friend.
Add to this the fact that you can add a few extras, like Monterey Bay wine and a cheese-and-crackers plate upon arrival, and this is a great place to stay in Monterey Bay.
