Relax On A Private Beach With A Waitress Bringing You Food & Drinks
If relaxing on a private beach with a waitress bringing food & drinks sounds good to you, then keep reading this article.
Because that travel fantasy is actually a reality at the Harbor Sands club at Two Harbors on Catalina Island in Southern California. It is often said – by me, actually – that Catalina is a million mental miles from Los Angeles, and with the Harbor Sands palapas you are at least a few mental miles from the rest of Two Harbors.
The palapas are private cabanas on a beach with soft sand in a private area of Two Harbors adjacent to the Harbor Reef bar and restaurant. They are covered with two oversized wicker chairs and a large couch, both equipped with several large pillows. A curtain closes to provide privacy.
Towels are provided, as well as a bucket of ice filled with water bottles. Six non-alcoholic drinks are included (but hey, I ordered shots of rum to go with mine) and at the end of the day, frozen popsicles.
For those who want to get a little work done while relaxing – or just want to sharing photos on social media of you relaxing to make your friends back home jealous – a strong (and free) WiFi signal.
Food, which is delivered to you by a waitress or waiter, is from the Harbor Reef snack bar. SO are the drinks, which includes a full menu of specialty cocktails. You do pay extra for this; drinks are about $8.50 while food is in the $10-15 range (plus tax, tip and a Two Harbors beautification fee).
The harbor is right in front of you, so you can go swimming or snorkeling and for sunbathing you can lay out on one of the lounge chairs. But the palapa is soooo nice you won’t want to leaved it for long.
The palapas will remind you of the Vegas VIP pool scene, tho without the pumping DJ and girls in bikinis and dudes in board shorts partying, well, Vegas style. In fact, during PubClub’s visit, a husband and wife took center stage with their two young kids dancing in the sand.
One thing missing from Harbor Sands is live music, but that is something PubClub.com took care of by inviting guitarist and songwriter Evyn Charles along for the trip. Evyn pulled out his guitar and played a few tunes, including the “26 Miles Across The Sea” song about traveling to Catalina Island.
This was well-received by others, one of which commented “wow, I’m really enjoying this music!”
The price of a palapa is $275 a day and they accommodate up to eight people.
