The place is blue, and it gets a bolt of blue and yellow energy every Sunday. Or whenever the LA Chargers play a game.
Agave Azul Cantina in Hermosa Beach is the game-watching bar of the South Bay Super Chargers fan group, who gathers in mass (30-50 strong) to cheer on their team. Raffle tickets are passed around to everyone, prizes from shirts to bottle openers are given out and the bar has a special game-day menu.
The so-you’re-saying-there’s-chance enthusiastic Chargers fans in this group get fired up every week for their team, whether it won or lost the previous week or even weeks. They are as resilient as Wile E.Coyote.
Beyond the Super Chargers games, Agave Azul is happening more often than on those game days.
It’s a Hermosa nightlife hotspot in the action-packed Pier Plaza area. Located where the previously popular Standing Room live music venue once filled the South Bay with the sounds of local and regional touring bands, it carries on that tradition by having live performances on the stage.
The restaurant and bar has a fairly large (by Hermosa standards anyway) inside area with the bar, a long table in the center, booths along a wall more tables in front of the stage (these are removed when it transforms from restaurant to nightlife bar), as well as and indoor-outdoor patio and outdoor seating along Hermosa Ave.
Its location is 1320 Hermosa Ave., just a few blocks north of Pier Plaza.
