It’s the Big 10 Pub Crawl, a gathering of alumni from Big 10 schools who gather to watch the college football games building up to the Big 10 Championship, which features Michigan and Iowa.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, Dec. 4. The meeting time is Noon and the check-in location is Hennessey’s Tavern at the Hermosa Beach Pier.
Since the bars on and around the Hermosa pier are small, and there are so many people, the crawlers are divided into groups and assigned bars at specific times. And there are drink specials in each bar. The final meeting spot is the Underground at 5 p.m.

This is a collection of Spartans, Wolverines, Buckeyes, Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes, Huskers, Golden Gophers, Hoosiers, Illini, Wildcats Badgers Boilermakers (hey, that’s a drink, too!) and even Terrapins and Scarlet Knights.
It’s best to sign up in advance to get your nametag and school assignment. You don’t have to be an alumni of a Big 10 school to attend so if you went to another college or university, just pick a Big 10 school and you’ll be assigned to that group.
The group – more than 500 strong – then goes in and out of the other bars in the pier: Waterman’s, Silvio’s (a Penn State bar), Patrick Molloy’s, Sharkeez and American Junkie (an Ohio State bar) before winding up at the Underground Pub (a Wisconsin bar) for championship game between Ohio State and Northwester. Yes, Northwestern!
Kickoff for that tilt is 5:17 p.m.
The cost is $10 and the money goes directly to charity.
