PubClub.com is not a political site. That is why you never see articles on political topics, ripping or supporting any particular politician and why I never have to apologize for some stupid politically-motivated social media post.
It is, however, a lifestyle website. So when I received a message from a local business owner asking for my help in the upcoming Hermosa Beach elections, I was glad to do my part.
Why now?
Because Hermosa Beach is about the fun Southern California lifestyle and the current city council seems determined to turn it into a “family” beach by handcuffing some local businesses, namely the bars. This is biting the very hands that feed it.
Hermosa Beach has always been a place where singles, couples and families who like to get out and do things could blend in at lively events, small house parties and social gatherings all enhanced by robust nightlife. Trying to make it anything else is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
The residents have long been flight attendants, service workers, entrepreneurs and independent contractors such as myself, as well as some really smart professional people such as aerospace engineers (in case you are wondering why so many people from the University of Michigan are here).
These people keep the city alive by spending money several nights a week at the restaurants and bars.
Here’s what the business owner sent me:
“As a business owner and concerned resident, I am committed to partnering with the city and our elected officials to protect our city’s unique culture. That’s why I’ve become more engaged in this election cycle.
“With three open council seats, we have the opportunity to support fantastic candidates that I feel will bring balance, increased responsibility & transparency, and common sense to our city’s core. Please join me in voting for Dan Godwin, Jeff Raedy and Kieran Harrington!”
I don’t know Dan or Jeff but I do know Kieran and can tell you he is a super-friendly quality person. We’re only casual friends but he’s the type of guy that were I in need of help for some reason, he would drop everything and come assist me, no questions asked.
He has also been a Hermosa Beach business owner.
And hey, check out this cool video on the Hermosa Beach lifestyle.
