Skeletons, Pumpkin Heads & The Munsters Decorate The Strand

The Los Angeles beach town of Hermosa Beach is getting in the mood for Halloween, as several houses are decorated for the “scary” day and night on Oct. 31.
By mid-October, a half dozen houses on The Strand had put out decorations. PubClub.com went by bike up and down The Strand to snap photos of the decorations to share here on this blog post.
The most extensive was series of decorations on the patio of a house on 17th Street, including a large “monster” with a pumpkin head.
Just north of this house, beyond a walk street, another house has its decorations inside. There are flying bats and in what many people in Hermosa can relate to after being at some Halloween parties, a skeleton in a passed out position on a bar-style chair.

On 7th Street, there are skeletons hanging from the second-floor balcony, plus Herman Munster and “Grandpa” from the 70s TV show “The Munsters” just hanging out sitting in chairs.
One place that is not decorated is one that looks like Halloween 365 days a year; the so-called “Adam’s Family house” on 4th Street.
If you want a personal tour from a local, contact Beach Cities Bike Tours for a two-hour tour of The Strand in Hermosa & Manhattan Beach ($25/hr for up to 6 people). E-mail: [email protected].
Halloween night in Hermosa has lots of kids roaming The Strand trick-or-treating from house to house. Many of those in the houses have small parties for adults, who pause between cocktails and conversations to give candy to the children.
The biggest event in Hermosa and the surrounding Beach Cities of Manhattan and Redondo Beach is the South Bay Scream, an adults (and mostly singles) party at the Portofino in Redondo.
