One Of South Bay’s Favorite Watering Holes Expands On Pier Plaza
The owners are the same – they always were when Killer Shrimp was in another building – and it’s now blended into the Mermaid building. The menu at Mermaid is expanding but for true PubClubbers all the fantastic bartenders are still making the best cocktails in town.
There owners are also expanding and upgrading the patio – one of the few in all the South Bay that faces The Strand – and replacing the south wall by the booth with a big window that looks out onto the patio, as well as onto Pier Plaza.
The Mermaid is one of PubClub.com’s favorite watering holes in Hermosa. The bartenders are friendly and fantastic, the place has an awesome Happy Hour twice a day (3-7 and 10-close, seven days a week, the highlight of which is “The Drink Of The Week” cocktail) and a very local crowd.
Killer Shrimp’s addition will bring in more people looking to have dinner at nite tho they may have the option to dine in the cozy lounge in the back of the building.
The location is one of the best in the entire Beach Cities, right on The Strand just a few steps to the north the pier. It’s a hangout for beach-goers, people rolling in after rolling up and down beach path on their bicycles, a few local self-made bar legends and a lot of 30s-plus South Bay party-minded singles.
If you’re wondering where the 20s South Bay party-minded singles go, then go a few steps away on Pier Plaza to American Junkie, Patrick Molloy’s and Sharkeez.
Other bars on Pier Plaza are the famous Lighthouse Cafe, which was featured in the movie La La Land; Waterman’s Safe House, a surfer-themed bar with a very good food menu (and a great selection of beers on draft); the long-standing Hennessey’s, which occasionally gets a crowd with live music on weekends and Tower 12, a somewhat upscale but also casual beach bar/lounge.
