A True Pub Club In The South Bay’s Hot Party Destination
I don’t recall the first time I set foot in Patrick Molloys, but I recall some of the good times I’ve had in the place.
There were the AVP weekends, post-Fiesta Hermosa beer garden nights, wild promotions like Cowboy Ugly featuring sexy girls dancing on the bar, weekend champagne brunches, friends’ birthday parties, the 12 Bars of Christmas, watching big games on the TVs, and, of course, St. Patrick’s Day.
And now, Sunday nights with the never-ending band, lively crowd and cheap drinks.
Most people in the South Bay have similar memories and moments in Molloy’s, which in the summer of 2016 celebrated its 20th anniversary on Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach, CA.
It’s just that kind of place.
Casual pub by day and min-club at night with its pumping DJ music, Patrick Molloy’s serves all manner of barfly in the South Bay. It’s sandals-and-shorts casual – hey, it’s at the beach! – while also being stylish enough to make you want to kick it up an couple of notches on a Friday or Saturday night.
And when a place has been around for so long, you can’t help but reflect back on a few highlight moments. One of mine was daytime during the AVP pro beach volleyball tournament – back when the Hermosa Open was thriving – and staying in pretty much one place the entire time.
My friends from Canada were in town and we were leaning against the railing that separated the bar area from the booths. We didn’t have to move because every good-looking girl in the South Bay seemed to pass us at one point during the day, which kept us talking and laughing until, well, pretty much the next day.
Molloy’s has lasted 20 years not because it’s in a prime position at the Hermosa pier, but because it’s done things the simple way – create a good atmosphere, put some sports on the TVs, bring in a DJ and bands, host the occasional hot promotion but mainly be a South Bay-friendly bar.
No doubt, many more good memories in Molloy’s wait not just for this blogger and PubClubbers, but many other people, as well.
