Costume Beach Volleyball Tournament In Hermosa Beach

The creative, crazy, fun glad-I’m-single (or I’m-single-this-weekend) event in Hermosa Beach, CA, known as Smackfest is Saturday, July 23.
Registration opened June 1, and is for teams of four (at least one girl is required, as if that’s a problem). So get your teammates, register before it’s sold out (which always happens) and come up with your team theme over several beers at one of our local bars.
The cost is $180 for a team – you can add more “players” for an extra fee – and includes food and drink specials all day at Sharkeez, a post-party at The Deck and a goodie bag full of, well goodies.

For those not in the know, Smackfest is one of the top singles party events of the year in the South Bay. It is a beach volleyball event with co-ed teams playing 4’s on the south side of the Hermosa Beach pier.
The playing level is all over the place from people who can barely hit a ball (especially after several trips to the bar) to a pros division. Most teams come up with a theme and dress in costumes and in the past there’s been people bringing out a Christmas tree, playing (or attempting to play) in banana suits, even Rubik’s Cube suits.
There’s a DJ on the beach pumping tunes and often some other form of entertainment, such as a fashion show or hula dancers.
And you don’t have to play to be involved; it’s a free and open event to spectators.
There’s more than 700 people involved in the teams and another couple of hundred people roaming around the courts.
In total, approximately 1,000 young, forever young, single, single-for-the-weekend and fun party people are on and around the sand, Pier Plaza and the bars during Smackfest.
