Beach Volleyball Coed Costume Party Is July 23

Just a few weeks after being available, there’s no more signups for teams. All that remains now is to see what costumes and themes those teams will be revealing when this unique beach volleyball tournament hits the sand at the Hermosa Beach Pier on Saturday, July 23.
Actually, PubClub knows the identity of one team, the sexy Lingerace girls. We also suspect there will be the pirates and wenches, the big bananas and the Price Is Right team, complete with the big spin wheel.
In case you are not from the South Bay of L.A., or are new to it, and are wondering what the heck this article is about, well Smackfest combines the best of the culture of the Beach Cities into one event.
It’s beach volleyball and a party. There’s 700 people on the teams and it’s girls and guys on the same time in pool play. Some teams are good – very good – but most are not and frankly they care only about partying and socializing because this is a great social and singles event.
One of the top in the South Bay, in fact.
The partying comes from frequent trips to the official bar, Sharkeez, which has drink specials for the players. It also involves trips to other bars at the pier, most notably Mermaid and The Deck.
On the beach, a DJ blasts music, there’s dancers providing entertainment and the highlight is when all play stops and the organizer, Bill Sigler of Smackfest Events, leads the crowd in the singing and playing of the traditional Neil Diamond song “Sweet Caroline.”
If you’re on a team, then you’re “in” so to speak but if you just want to be a spectator, that’s fine, too.
