Strong Drinks, Great Bartenders And Happy Hour 7 Days A Week

First – and for a long time – it was Sharkeez.
Then it was Fenner’s.
And now it’s The Mermaid.
A group of long-time local South Bay singles have a new favorite “go-to” bar and it’s one that has been in Hermosa Beach for decades: The Mermaid.
A couple of years ago the long-standing bar with the dark interior and leather booths was sold, Killer Shrimp took it over and made some modest improvements (a huge new hotel development is coming in a few years). Now, it’s where you can find many of the 30’s+ single people hanging out just about any night of the week.

It’s big on late Saturday afternoons going into the early to mid evenings and as a “wind-down” place on late Sunday afternoons to early evening.
The appeal is obvious – it’s a simple place with a touch of romance (there’s a fireplace), it’s right on The Strand and it’s total beach casual with a touch of class.
The daily Happy Hour (including weekends) also helps. It goes from 3-6 and includes $5 for a couple of beers of the day, wine and a Drink of the Week, which is often the best bargain.
It also has a patio outside – this is surprisingly rare in an area at the Pacific Ocean with 325 days of annual sunshine – on The Strand.
Then there are the drinks. And the people pouring the drinks.
The Mermaid has a fleet of great-looking gals making up cocktails with fresh-squeezed fruits and mixes and they don’t skimp on the alcohol. So not only do you get a well-made and tasty drink, you get one that packs a punch. And if anything attracts people in this town, it’s strong drinks.
Most people arrive at The Mermaid already on a roll of cocktails and they roll into to The Mermaid to take advantage of that momentum by being with their party friends and to (hopefully) meet other partying singles.
For in the South Bay, you see, the people may age a bit physically, but never mentally.
The Mermaid Address: 11 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach, CA
