Big Beers, Great Food & A Total Beach Cities Singles Scene

It’s been a while since the South Bay has had a go-to Happy Hour.
The kind of place where on Fridays, you start cleaning up your work desk at 4 preparing to bolt out the door precisely at 5.
Where the crowd is not only good but South Bay good. Where the drinks are well priced, the food is good and it become a tone-setter for the weekend.
Well there’s one now, and it’s Tower 12 at the Hermosa Beach Pier.
It’s everything a Happy Hour should be and used to be in these Los Angeles Beach cities of Hermosa, Manhattan & Redondo Beach.
In PubClub.com’s world – and this holds true in the South Bay and it should apply everywhere, in fact – there are three main criteria than make up a “destination” Happy Hour:
1.) Are there good food & drink specials?
2.) Is the staff attentive?
3.) Is there a crowd and if so, is it a good, lively crowd?
In all three areas, Tower 12 nails it.
The food and drink specials are great. They double the size of your cocktails at the regular price and pour beers into 32-ounce schooners (believe me, a couple of those and you’re feeling pretty good). The price for a schooner of draft beer, including their craft selections, is $7.
The food is $5-8:50 and is most likely the best Happy Hour food you’ll get anywhere in the USA. It’s borderline gourmet, and there’s a lot of it. The Cheese Steak Poppers ($5.50) are basically two Philly cheesestakes in a pastry, stuffed full of oozing cheese and meat. The Burrata Toast & Prosciutto Di Sam Daniele ($5.50) is as big as the name of it.

The staff is also ON it. Even on a busy Friday night where you have to squeeze into a spot, it only takes something like five minutes to get your food. The bartenders are quick to see you and quick to serve you.
“Training, training, training,” proprietor Greg Newman explained when PubClub complimented him on the service.
And the crowd? Outstanding.
For starters, it’s crowded and since you’re squeezing into a bar space or a spot on the patio or hurrying to grab a table, you can’t help but bump into and talk to people. This mingling aspect is one of the greatest virtues of Happy Hours and it happens here by default.
And those eating and drinking at Tower 12 are true young professionals; the age range is mid 20s to mid-30s with a sprinkling of the much-likable “forever young” people of the Beach Cities. Many of them are having such a good time, they stay well after Happy Hour ends, which is a true testament to its social impact.
Happy Hour at Tower 12 is so good it has gone beyond being a place to go for good food and drinks at a discounted price. It’s become a destination.
And that’s just what the South Bay needs in its bar and nightlife scene.
See you there on Friday.
