Fictional Neptune Beach Spring Break Scene Filmed In LA’s South Bay

Hollywood came to Hermosa Beach for the filming of the TV show “Veronica Mars” for a day in mid-November.
Hermosa stood in for a Spring Break scene on the fictional Neptune Beach, CA. Scenes were shot along The Strand and by the water’s edge between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
The show, produced by Warner Bros., and starring Kristen Bell, is based upon the lead character working as a private investigator looking into the messed-up lives of the rich and famous in Neptune Beach. The scene shot in Hermosa featured actors and extras in bikinis and board shots walking on The Strand, partying on the decks of a couple Strand houses and people playing beach volleyball and other beach games.

In other words, it looked like a typical Saturday in Hermosa, with the exception of huge spotlights, a boom camera hanging over The Strand and a lot of staffers with walkie talkies and tons of equipment.
Access to The Strand was kept open, and the production company even employed people to be Hollywood’s equivalent of college football’s “get back” coach, telling the actors and extras to “get back” if they wandered into the middle of the beachfront sidewalk.
Hermosa Beach is no stranger to Hollywood. Just a few blocks from this location is where the pier dancing scene was filmed for the almost Academy Award-winning movie La La Land.
As of this posting, there is no air date for this episode. But you can bet people not from here watching it will be wondering where the actual location is, and that would be right here in Hermosa Beach.
