Wine Shop Celebrates 6th Year With A True #SundayFunday
It was a true #SundayFunday at Uncorked wine shop in Hermosa Beach, CA.
On a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon the third week of October, the wine flowed, a band played and more than a hundred people met and mingled in what has to be one of the South Bay’s top intimate events.
The cost for the event was $55 and it was worth every dollar because the wines poured were ones sold in the store, which means they are not readily available elsewhere. There were wines from Australia, Italy – I had a very nice white from Sicily, which is not something you can certainly get everyday – and several from Napa Valley among other places and countries.
I was glad to learn that the featured Napa wineries did not suffer any damage in the recent Wine Country Fires, by the way.
In all, there were about 100 wines. I was pleasantly surprised to see there were also about half a dozen craft beers. I had an excellent Pale Ale from Australia and a Tiki Hut IPA from local brewer King Harbor Brewing Company.
My strategy, which I quickly developed upon entering the party, was to make my way around the area, first having the whites and then repeating the process while sampling reds. I wanted to start with the white wines first because it was about 85 degrees and the whites were in cool-looking ice buckets. Thankfully, the event was under a tent and I never got too hot.
Almost as a bonus was pizza! And not just ordinary pizza but Locale90. They brought in their own oven and handed out slices one right after another for the entire three hours of the event (four hours for Uncorked Wine Club members). I had never had this pizza before and am happy to report that it is outstanding. The dough is fantastic but what really makes it great is its sensational sauce.
The band played light background music but at the end, a gal got up and sang the blues and nailed it.
This was my first Uncorked anniversary party. I had heard good things about in the past and now I know why – it’s a blast!
