Take The Plunge At This Unique LA Nightclub Scene
No sooner had I finished chatting with Splash Night Fridays promoter Gilles Amsaleem about whether or not people jump in the pool when there was a big splash in front of me.
A couple of guys had jumped into the pool, cannonball style, and created, well, a very big splash.
Actually, it was too big of a splash, as Amsallem kindly pointed out to the splashers. Such things can soak poolside guests who prefer to remain dry and utilize the event for its other feature, namely a hip nightclub scene high above Hollywood.
Splash Night Fridays take place at the rooftop pool of the W Hotel in Hollywood each Friday under the stars into Labor Day Weekend. There’s a pair of DJs playing fun party music – but nothing over-the-top that screams in your ears like at Las Vegas nightclubs; the scene here is more subdued than all-out insanity – people mingling poolside and at the bars and others in the VIP areas.
There’s also a really fun photo booth where you can take silly pictures of yourselves and your group (or what the heck, perhaps with a couple of strangers), get a printout and a copy e-mailed or texted to you.
Some people are there to unwind from a long week and kickoff their weekend, others are there to party and some, apparently, want to go for a swim. After all, how many pools at bars are there in Los Angeles? Not many and certainly not on Friday nights.
It’s a fun event, and its combination of dayclub (the pool) and nightclub (the DJ and cool nightlife vibe) make it a fun and certainly different environment in LA’s nightlife scene.
As far as drinks, there’s the featured Bulldog Gin and Canard Duchene, a satellite bar dedicated to both Bulldog Gin Cocktails, VieVite Rosé (an excellent Rose, perfect for the mild Hollywood nights on the rooftop), low calorie cocktails by SlimChic and alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails from Perrier.

• Cover Charge: $20
• Dress Code: Moderate clubby for those who want to stay dry. You can wear your bathing suit (tip: put it under your clothes when entering) and walk around in shorts once on the rooftop.
• The pool has inflatable pool toys
• Full bars offer beers and cocktails
• Dates: Every Friday thru Labor Day Weekend
• Hours: 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
