Anyone who is in Los Angeles and says “there’s nothing to do in LA” probably has a very limited social life because there is always something to do in that city.
It’s all over place, too, with a great variety of events and activities, one of which is the Barnsdall Friday Wine Tasting Series. Taking place on Olive Hill and the West Lawn of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House, this is a classy, unique-to-LA happening that is part wine tasting and part picnic.
It has DJs and exhibitions at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Barnsdall Junior Arts Center Gallery, all with a view of the Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Park Observatory. It has been going on for 16 years and has proven to be so popular that it is being expanded into September this year. Here are those dates and the scheduled entertainment:
• Sept 5: The Passion of Buenos Aires (Tango, Cumbia, Cuarteto) paired with wines from Argentina
• Sept 12: Sunset in Paris(Classic and contemporary French jazz) paired with wines from France
• Sept 19: Celebrating the Feast of San Gennaro (Song stylings of Italian-Americans like Sinatra, Tony Bennett & Louie Prima) paired with wines from Italy
• Sept 26: Summer’s Gone(The sounds of Southern California beaches) paired with wines from California
The Barnsdall Friday Wine Tasting Series is a ticketed event and includes four flights of wine. Food is sold separately. The times are as follows:
• 5:30 p.m. – Gates open; lawn spaces are first come first served.
• 8:30 p.m. – Last call for wine and bathrooms close.
• 9 p.m. – Music and event ends.
It is a 21-and-over event.
All of the proceeds for this annual fundraising series produced by Barnsdall Art Park Foundation support programming within Barnsdall Art Park.
Tickets are $26.75 and are available here.
