A La Diner en Blanc tradition is waiving napkins in a “cheers’ celebration.

The elegant, white and mysterious dinner party is back for 2017.

Le Diner en Blanc Los Angeles will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14. Of course, we can’t give you the location because it’s a secret.

It’s a secret until two hours before the event, in fact. But it will be in the evening and in a public place somewhere in L.A.

“We are thrilled to be back in Los Angeles for the fourth time to honor this tradition of community and culinary excellence,” said Annette Dalloo, co-host of Le Dîner en Blanc – Los Angeles. “With the tremendous success of last year’s event, we could not be more excited to continue our relationship with Patina Catering.

“Their expertise and years of experience elevate Le Dîner en Blanc Los Angeles to new heights.”

Le Diner en Blanc Los Angeles is Southern California’s version of the wildly popular events that take place in other major cities around the world. Thousands of people gather in a TBD public place, dressed in all-white attire and have a huge outdoor dinner party together.

Diners bring everything they need for the night: their dinner table, table cloth, table decorations, silverware and even napkins. You can order a basket of food in advance from one of Patina Caterings picnic baskets, curated exclusively for Le Dîner en Blanc Los Angeles, and purchase fine wines or champagne at the event.

When the night is finished, people pick up everything – and we mean everything – and take it back home with them. There is nothing left behind, not a single scrap of food or discarded napkin.

You must register to attend. Here’s how that process works and it occurs in three phrases.

Phase 1 is for members who attended the previous year; Phase 2 is for new members who are referred by Phase 1 attendees; and Phase 3 is for people who have signed up on the waiting list.

Once confirmed, each guest’s participation becomes mandatory, regardless of weather conditions. This is a rain or shine event.

The dress code is elegant and white only. “Originality is encouraged as long as it is stylish and tasteful,” according to organizers.

Table settings are all white.

For alcohol, it’s champagne and/or wine only. Beer and hard liquor are prohibited. To ensure that the location secret is kept undisclosed until last minute, guests meet at assigned departure location and are escorted by a Dîner en Blanc volunteer.

As per Los Angeles alcohol laws, people cannot bring their own alcohol. Wine or champagne must be reserved online through the Dîner en Blanc’s e-store. Guests are, however, welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic beverages.

Here are the required items to bring to the event:
• A table, two white chairs, white tablecloth
• A picnic basket comprising fine food and proper stemware and white dinnerware.
• A catered picnic basket option, which can be picked up on site, will be available for those who do not wish to pack their own dinner.
