With a name like Freaky Tiki Happening, you can expect a creatively fun time.
This is an event taking place October in Long Beach, CA. It is Oct. 19 at the way-cool Secret Island Tiki Lounge, below Shannon’s Corner bar, downtonw on 2nd & Pine Ave. It involves – are you ready for this!? – circus performers, go-go dancers, live music and rum tastings. This is a Flor de Caña Rum takeover of Shannon’s and the tiki lounge with a grotto and hidden entrances.
Tickets are $40, $75 for a couple.
The event includes a large dance floor, art deco bar, luau buffet and vendors. The bands are the Santa Ana Bay Coconuts, Little Kahuna, the Tequila Worms, exotic Middle-Eastern inspired surf music from The Scimitars, St. Petersburg Russia’s vivacious Draculina and her band, plus headliners, “the spookiest band in the world,” San Diego’s legendary Deadbolt.
There is also sneak preview performance of the amazing musical created by the artist SHAG: Shag With A Twist.
Food and Spirits
In additoin to the luau buffet, The Carvery Prime Rib Restaurant bar will be the scene of several contests, seminars, a competition in mocktail making, and a bartender battle featuring some of the area’s top mixologists.
That’s three bars/restaurants will be serving tiki and and craft cocktail Plus, there’s more specialty drinks and a fourth menu at Shannon’s Irish Pub on the street level.
In other words, it’s a different kind of tiki event. It’s a Freaky Tiki Happening!
There is wo hours free parking at 50 W. 3rd st. parking ramp a block away, tho it is suggested to take a rideshare or even public transportation – the Long Beach Passport bus from other part of Long Beach, including Belmont Shore ($1.25 each way, exact change).
