Strong Rum Drink A Salute To The South Bay’s Tradition

They cost $7 ($14 regular price) and pack a pretty good wallop of alcohol.
What is a Navy Grog? It’s a rum-based concoction that is a very strong drink. It’s red, powerful and after a couple, certainly sets the tone for the evening.
Why November? Because that’s the month in which Rock ‘n Fish opened at the Manhattan Beach Pier. It replaced Hibatchi, which was locally famous for making the strong drinks in a cool, Japanese-type setting that created many fun moments and memories for its patrons.
Yet here’s another time to get them at a discount, and on a year-round basis. They are just $7 during the Rock ‘n Fish Happy Hour, which is 3-6 Mondays thru Fridays (wines, beer, other cocktails such as the margarita and select food including its awesome clam chowder are also all $7).
Rock ‘n Fish is a very popular (and very good) fish restaurant in downtown Manhattan Beach just up from the pier on Manhattan Beach Blvd. It also has a lively bar scene, and locals pour into the bar area for the half-priced Navy Grogs all month.
They especially love to go in there before, during and after the Holiday Open House, an evening sidewalk stroll in which people – and many singles – turn out to meet, mingle and drink. It is always the third Wednesday of November.
For honoring this traditional Beach Cities cocktail, PubClub.com would like to give a big “cheers” to long-time local and now big-time South Bay businessman Mike Zislis (Shade Hotel, Strand House, and Rock & Brews, among others) for celebrating a South Bay tradition and sharing it with his customers.
There is also a Rock ‘n Fish downtown Los Angeles at L.A. Live.
