The Pier, Sunsets, Events & El Porto Make For Great Social Media Posts Locations

One of the most scenic areas of Los Angeles is Manhattan Beach, which has enough photo-worthy locations to fill up a smart phone.
PubClub.com has picked out our Top 10 most Instagrammable places in Manhattan Beach.
1.) Manhattan Beach Pier

The most natural place for Instagram posts is right here, for it provides vantage points over the sand, ocean, swimmers and surfers. People fish off the pier which makes for a nice backdrop and there’s a roundhouse at the end to give it a distinctive Manhattan Beach look. Look down, too; Manhattan Beach’s equivalent of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame is at your feet, plaques of the winners of the Manhattan Beach Open pro beach volleyball tournament (keep reading). Two excellent Instagrammable places for the pier are the two small parking lots just up from the pier.
2.) The Manhattan Beach Strand

The pulse of Manhattan Beach can be found on The Strand, a concrete running, walking and bicycling trail that runs parallel to the ocean for the entire two-plus miles of Manhattan Beach. From it you can get photos and videos of the true Southern California lifestyle. Note their is one part for walking and running and another for biking. So don’t stand in the middle of the bike path to take a selfie; you may get knocked down into the sand!
3.) Surf’s Up

There are always surfers in the water at the pier but is you really want to see surfers, go to the north end of Manhattan in the area locals call El Porto. They fill up the parking lot in the mornings and evenings and head into the water; sometimes there’s more than 50 of them looking to catch the perfect wave, and you can catch the perfect photo – or video – right here.
4.) El Porto

The northern section of Manhattan Beach, which basically is comprised of the area from Rosecrans to 45th Street, is home of the local characters and surfers. This is a kicked-back casual place, and beyond the beach great places for photos are OB’s bar for its popular Taco Tuesday and Pancho’s with its rock cover band. Those musicians on stage have played with some of rock’s greatest bands, including Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Styx and Alice Cooper .
5.) Sunsets

The pier, the surfers, the palm trees – they all make for spectacular sunset photos, and you can get them pretty much any evening. Some are so spectacular they will have you shaking your head and your followers giving you a lot of likes.
6.) The Strand Median

In Manhattan, unlike Hermosa and Redondo to the south, The Strand is divided into two areas, one for running and walking and and another for bicycles. In between there is a beautiful landscaped area just north of the pier and in El Porto, locals have taken to decorating this area. Have a seat in a chair on a tiny manicured lawn, if you have a putter handy you can knock a golf ball in a hole and at one time, there was even a piano that anyone could – and did – play.
7.) Manhattan Beach Blvd.

The main street that slopes down to the pier is lined with restaurants, bars and shops, all looking down at the pier, beach and ocean Just don’t stand in the middle of the street to get your photos/selfies because this is an active street with a continual flow of traffic.
8.) Shellback Tavern & Strand House Bars

You can’t come to Manhattan Beach and not get photos from a bar, and these two places provide excellent photo opportunities because they are the first bars off the beach and have unobstructed views of the ocean. Shellback is a classic dive bar, full of beach volleyball players (which also makes for good Instagram posts) while Strand House is more upscale.
9.) The Events

Manhattan Beach is the birthplace of beach volleyball and this is why the annual AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) is called “the Wimbledon of beach volleyball” by the players. The 2019 tournament is Aug. 16-18. But that’s not the only tournament in town, for two weeks earlier, Manhattan Beach hosts the zany 6-man in which players of all levels put on Halloween costumes and play in a tournament. Yet there is an even bigger and more spectacular event, the annual Holiday Fireworks, held the second Sunday in December. The first weekend of October it’s a 10K followed by a beer garden for Old Hometown Fair. These all present multiple social media posting opportunities.
