The 20121 Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade is Saturday, Dec. 11.

It takes place in Burton Chase Park from 5:55-8 p.m.

Of all the holiday boat parades in the Los Angeles area, this is the second largest, behind the multi-day Newport Beach Boat Parade. And it’s the only one that begins with a fireworks show. More than 25,000 attend this annual event.

Here’s all you need to know about it, including the location, best viewing locations, the boats and food & drink. If you’re single, hit the link for the ultimate single’s guide to the parade.

The event is free to attend.

MDR Holiday Boat Parade Date & Times

• Noon-6 p.m. – Snow Wonder at Burton Chase Park (holiday themed arts & crafts, DJ, & food trucks)
• 5:55 p.m. – Fireworks
ª 6-8 p.m. – Boats circle the marina

MDR Holiday Boat Parade Best Viewing Locations

The best viewing locations are in the park. Stroll along the waterfront until you find a spot. Generally this is away from the main area by the fisherman’s statue. That’s also where the loudspeaker is the loudest and it’s constant chatter as if it’s the Rose Bowl Parade.

You can also see the boats from other locations in the Marina, including Fisherman’s Village (tho this is not nearly as good as the park), along the Venice/MDR border (parking, is very limited here). The best location is definitely in Burton Chase Park.

MDR Holiday Boat Parade Food & Drinks

There are food trucks but no beer or wine garden. You can bring your own food and drinks and a several people like to do that, spreading blankets out on a grassy hill with a view of the boats.

MDR Holiday Boat Parade Location, Address & Parking

Location: Burton Chase Park, Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey

Parking: There are several county-run lots in MDR. The closest is on Mindanao Way and because people come and go, there are usually spots available here. The cost is around $10 (have cash). There is also parking in Fisherman’s Village ($1 every 20 minutes; $15 maximum). It is not advisable to park in the Ralph’s shopping center lot, for you may get towed.

Address & Map: 13650 Mindanao Way Marina del Rey, CA
