Oh my gosh – it’s Friday the 13th!

But not to worry; there’s plenty of events this weekend o have you thinking more about how much fun you’re having rather than dwelling on some superstitious date.

Top Weekend Events In Los Angeles For April 14-15

• Coachella

This massive music festival kicks off the first of its two weekends. Many of you are no doubt going to it; still here’s its website for any last-minute details.

• Long Beach Grand Prix

The annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is also this weekend. I used to be heavily – very heavily – involved in it, but things change. Anyway, below is a link to my favorite story on it, a rundown of what at least one time made it such as special and important event in L.A.  By the way, it’s not a cheap event; GA tickets are 65 bucks on Saturday and 70 on Sunday. The Cult is the band on Saturday.

Thursday, April 12 Events

• Free Drinks At Waterman’s Safe House

Yes, no kidding. Waterman’s is having an anniversary party and celebrating with free drinks from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Update: the promised free “adult beverages” in the flyer Watermans posted on its Instagram account (note the “s” in beverages), turned out to be one adult beverage.

Friday April 13 Events

• Tom Petty Tribute Band

If you’re Free Fallin’ this day, then do it with a Tom Petty song. Petty Or Not, a tribute band to the rock legend, is playing Standing Room. No cover.

Saturday, April 14 Events

• Chili Cookoff & Craft Beer Event

Eat great chili, drink craft beer and help raise money for Autism at this annual event. I went last year and it’s a good time. There’s a great variety of chili and it’s all-you-care-to-eat and you drink beers outside. Oh, and there’s margaritas, as well. It’s $10 (you buy the beers and margis) with raffle prizes. The time is Noon-4 p.m., and the location is Nick’s Community, 2909 Oregon Court, #A-3, in Torrance.

• Splash Of Love

This is an annual gala event and fundraiser with  live entertainment, heavy passed hors-d’oeuvres, whiskey pours and premium wine tastings, hosted this yar by Emmy Award Winning Host Mario Lopez.

Sunday April 15 Events

Rock Guitarist Mitch Perry – Not This Sunday

Every Sunday – except this one – the Standing Room rocks with this heavy metal guitarist and his pals who are so good (and loud) I’m pretty sure one day they are going to blast the windows out of the place 4-8. No cover. Mitch will be back next Sunday.

More Beer! (And Wine)

• Beach Cities Beer & Wine Festival Tickets On Sale Monday

Be sure and get your tickets before they sell out (and they will!) when they go on sale this Monday. By the way, our fun band Barley is playing this event!

Last Weekend Rewind

• ¥acht Clubs Opening Day

What a fun time was had last Sunday. It was Opening Day of the Redondo Beach Yacht Clubs and I wound up partying on a 70-foot yacht once owned by the Kennedys! Read my review below:
